If I ever grow tired of German reliability

It’s nice to know that there’s an understated, powerful, highly optioned and sublimely comfortable Japanese cruiser that even someone whose bank account has been drained on Phaeton repairs !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Thanks, Tavarish, you made me remember that I like the pre-facelift Lexus LS. There’s nothing that gets me all that exited about it, but my God it’s good value. Also, I can’t remember the last time a car with completely uninspired styling looked this good.

You just have to make sure you find a pre-facelift LS460 without air suspension or else you’ll be suffering like a German car.

The Japanese know how to take a nice car and remove all the passion and zest from it. Nevertheless I would be quite happy to own one.

Still looking for my IS Sportcross. There’s one nearby — for $17,000...

The Japanese know how to take a nice car and remove all the passion and zest from it.

As a result, they tend to go about the job of being a safe, comfortable car much better than the competition. At least up until recently, when Lexus started upping the passion and everyone else started upping the reliability.

I even commented on there that this is one of the only ones I think I have ever agreed with

Breaking news: Tavarish recommends car that isn’t likely to implode within 20 minutes, entire world implodes as a result.

I have never been in a Jap lux car but I am guessing it is no more safe or comfortable than a comparable S Class. The only thing this car has going for it better than a S Class is reliability. It's an very very very good car. One of the best made at the time but it isn't a car I would ever see being collectable or lusted after like its competitors

EDIT: whoops, it’s actually “only” 14.5k!

Still absurd, because I’ve found ones in good condition for half, but whatever. They’re all auto, so no real loss in my heart as of now.

We had a GS when I grew up. In this case, it’s not just a little more reliable. It’s the difference between a car that always brakes down and one that never does. And yeah, it’s never going to be a collector or enthusiast’s car. It’s meant for people who just want a car to do the job as best as possible,. This is why I tend towards Germans in terms of used luxury cars (like I sad, the playing filed right now is very even), but even if I can’t love the LS, it gets absolutely all of my respect.

I agree it gets respect and it would be the perfect car to suggest to a family member/friend looking for used luxury but it isn't the one for me for fun.

Dat Japanese mobstermobile

Also, for less than 20K it is a tremendously good car.

I feel like Toyotas are not really cars anymore (well modern ones at least) in that they work so uniformly and consistently that it’s like turning on a computer...they always sound the same when they start, nothing is ever different, nothing interesting ever happens...

I do too. Just not as much the new Predator spindle ones.

Honda is, after all, the Japanese word for “without soul”.

That is precisely what ninety-something percent of the population wants from a car.

Unfortunately. I hate ninety-something percent of the population sometimes.
